Brazilian football legend Edmílson, a member of Brazil’s 2002 FIFA World Cup-winning squad, visited Korea on June 22 to participate in the selection of promising young Korean football players.
Edmílson participated as a special one-day judge for the “Global Youth Football Project Selection Trial,” jointly hosted by global Web3 platform PUNKVISM and the Ansan City Football Association.
The selection trial is designed to identify young Korean football talents with the potential to compete on the global stage. After the evaluation process, a final 24-player elementary youth squad is scheduled to travel to Brazil in the second half of this year for an overseas football training and development program.
During the Brazil program, the selected youth players will participate in training sessions and matches with youth teams from leading local football clubs. PUNKVISM plans to produce and release documentary-style content covering the full journey, from the selection process to the overseas training program and match experience.
Edmílson is a former defensive midfielder who played for the Brazil national team as well as major European clubs including Olympique Lyonnais and FC Barcelona. He left a lasting impression on football fans worldwide after scoring a memorable overhead-kick goal against Costa Rica during the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
In line with Edmílson’s visit to Korea, PUNKVISM will also release an official Edmílson limited edition. This follows the company’s previous global IP licensing initiatives involving Roberto Carlos and Welber Jardim, a São Paulo FC prospect, which drew attention in the global Web3 market. Proceeds from the project are expected to be used to support documentary production around the Brazil tour, as well as training expenses for the youth team.
Through this project, PUNKVISM aims to expand a Web3-based participatory model that connects sports IP with youth talent development and global sports opportunities.
