Europe’s leading trailer and truck body manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull is opening a new UK manufacturing plant in Manchester, creating up to 50 new jobs in the next 12 months.
The 7,500 sq m facility at the Southmoor Industrial Estate, Wythenshawe, will start producing custom-built, market-specific vehicles for customers in the UK and Ireland this summer with an initial capacity of 50 units per week.
The site will also contain a 1,000 sq m spare parts warehouse for local supply and by the end of this year will become the main base for all Schmitz Cargobull UK staff, currently based in Warrington.
Schmitz Cargobull UK’s Managing Director – Operations, Paul Avery, says: “I’m really excited about the opportunities this new facility presents for our business, for UK fleets and for the local community.
“Manchester is the perfect location for us with its strong industrial heritage and we can’t wait to start building quality, customised trailers for UK and Irish companies, with a real focus on low total cost of ownership.”
CEO of Schmitz Cargobull, Andreas Schmitz, says: “The UK is a key transport and logistics hub and an important market for us. Our new plant in Manchester will enable us to move closer to our customers and allow us to address the specific needs and challenges of the UK transport market.”
The new operation joins an extensive Schmitz Cargobull production network including headquarters in Germany, and bases across Europe and Australia.
Family-owned Schmitz Cargobull is synonymous with quality and innovation and the business produced around 46,000 trailers worldwide in the last business year. Its aftercare sales support is based on an authorised network of 1,700 workshops located across the UK, Ireland and in Europe.
