Remember Paul McCartney’s iconic performance at a pub on the James Corden show? Well, the pub was the Philharmonic Pub in Liverpool! This pub in Liverpool screams history and has the city’s great musical past since Buddy Holly and Paul McCartney both performed here, and it was one of John Lennon’s favourite pubs. With a large assortment of ales and beers on tap, this pub in Liverpool is where you can relax and enjoy a pint. The bar is full of character and charm, with a few small rooms where you may sit or stand by the bar. There is a good assortment of pub-style meals available at a reasonable price. The famed gents’ restrooms are also well worth a visit.

2. Wetherspoons Liverpool

Location: 7 Lime St, Liverpool L1 1RJ

Wetherspoons is part of the Lime Street train station, one of the best areas in the city of Liverpool. There are fantastic travel-era posters in the back dining room of this magnificent, stunning 19th-century building. Wetherspoons’ chef prepares delicious sausages, grilled steaks, and chicken wraps with a good selection of beers and lagers on tap. According to reviews, waiters here serve perfectly cooked pudding and excellent muffins. A clean, safe atmosphere with excellent service and customer focus. A welcoming atmosphere with a variety of decor in each seating area.

3. The Grapes Liverpool

Timings: Monday: 4 pm-11 pm; Tuesday-Thursday: 11 am-1 am; Friday: 1 pm-1 am; Saturday-Sunday: 11 am-1 am

The Grapes, one of the oldest pubs in Liverpool, was built around 1804 on the site of an earlier tavern. This was a popular hangout for the Beatles and many other rock bands and a safe refuge from their shouting teenage fans. There is an excellent selection of real ales, and the prices are incredibly fair. Evenings must be cramped and cozy, but there was plenty of room for our afternoon visit. A little off the beaten path, but certainly worth a visit. They serve an excellent selection of local beers and gins and provide prompt service.

4. Pogue Mahone, Liverpool

Location: 77 Seel St, Liverpool L1 4BB
Timings: Sunday-Thursday: 12 pm-2 am; Friday-Saturday: 12 pm-3 am

Finding a great spot to watch football or listen to live music? This pub is for you! Pogue Mahone is a traditional Irish pub in Liverpool’s city centre. This pub serves the best beer in town, as well as some of the best live music in Liverpool 7 nights a week and all the live sports screenings every day, making it a perfect pub in Liverpool to sit back and relax. This pub in Liverpool has been named a CAMRA Pub of Excellence and has also won Pub of the Year several times. Ship & Mitre boast the greatest collection of hand-pulled ales in Merseyside, not to mention one of the widest ranges of roughly 200 beers in the North West. This is another classic pub in Liverpool’s center and is worth a visit! 

6. The Head of Steam Liverpool

This enormous pub in Liverpool, which has plenty of seats in various arrangements and sorts, opened in September. Head of Steam has many important sporting events broadcast live, so it can get very crowded, especially in the evening. At Head of Steam, you’ll find a diverse menu focusing on British cuisine. Many visitors come to savour the perfectly prepared chicken skewers, fish, and soup. The staff recommends nice draught beer, craft beer, or pale ale based on your liking. 

7. Doctor Duncan’s

Location: St John’s Ln, Queen Square, Liverpool L1 1HF

A lovely traditional vintage Liverpool bar, Doctor Duncan’s is a ‘genuine local’ favorite in the city’s heart, just a 1-minute walk from Liverpool Lime Street Station. They offer a terrific selection of guest ales that change weekly. Like other pubs in Liverpool, they also broadcast all important sports events, from football to rugby, so stop by for a pre-match beer or two! Great beer selection and polite service in a lovely building across the park from the museum and art galleries. The tile work on the arches and the fireplace is stunning.

8. The Cavern Club

The Cavern Club is a sight to see! This club first opened its doors in 1957. After a few years, it became the world’s most famous music club. The Beatles have performed over 292 times at this venue. It was closed and rebuilt, and it now looks very much as it did in the 1960s. Artists sing their own songs or cover the Beatles all day, making it a musical pub in Liverpool. The Rolling Stones, Queen, Thin Lizzy, The Who, Elton John, and many other well-known bands have performed here. 

9. The Fly in the Loaf

10. The Caledonia

The Caledonia is an entirely different kind of pub in Liverpool. The Caledonia has reintroduced superb real ales from regional breweries, putting beer back at the forefront of its menu. The Caledonia is a totally vegan establishment that serves local Craft Beer and Real Ale, as well as a wonderful vegan food menu that includes Burgers, Wings, and Loaded Fries. They also have the city’s largest selection of Alcohol-Free Craft Beers and serve excellent coffee.

11. Peter Kavanagh’s

There might be many great clubs in Liverpool, but this pub tops the spirits scene. Peter Kavanagh’s, an exceptional pub in Liverpool, is a unique, vintage hideout located just outside the city centre. Peter Kavanagh’s, or “PK’s” to locals, has a front-of-house snug, a small bar area, and a big room with TVs, pianos, and transistor radios strung from the ceiling; it is a house or a pub? Who knows! It is named for the quirky and skilled landlord who owned this pub in Liverpool from 1897 until 1950, for 53 years. In 1929, he transformed the interior with enormous paintings by Scottish artists, stained glass windows by stained glass artists, and innovative woodwork and furniture built by himself.

12. Baltic Fleet

The Baltic Fleet, now a grade II listed structure, is a historic dock road bar still doing precisely what it was created for! Enjoy a cold pint on the sun-drenched beer terrace in the summer, or come in the winter to warm yourself next to their log-burning heater. All year, regardless of the weather, they serve bowls of authentic Scouse.

The Roscoe Head is the only bar in the North of England to have appeared in every edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide since it was first published in 1974.
