Over the last decade, the way people work, shop, socialize, and generally experience things has changed dramatically. The main reason behind this change has been the proliferation of online experiences.
In many ways, online experiences are better than in-person ones. They provide greater flexibility and convenience. On the other hand, some activities deserve to be done in real life.
Gaming
Playing video games online allows you to play at any time of day and against any opponent in the world. It’s far too difficult to meet up in-person whenever you want to play against a friend on FIFA, for example. The same goes for online casino games. When you play blackjack online, you get to experience live dealers, real opponents, and smooth gameplay. You don’t need to get dressed up and head out to the casino. You can play blackjack and other classic casino games from the comfort of your home.
Online education
Online education is another experience that is better online than it is in person. We all lead busy lives, and it can sometimes be difficult to fit in enrolling in and taking part in courses. Online education programs allow you to fit learning around your busy schedule. These courses can also connect you with lecturers, teachers, and other students from all over the world.
Concerts and live performances
Live music is best experienced in-person. Although streaming technology is constantly improving, online concerts will never compete with being front row at your favorite band or show. Being in the crowd, soaking up the atmosphere, and listening to live music are feelings that simply cannot be replicated online.
Job interviews
Job interviews are another experience that should be reserved for in-person only. Meeting face-to-face gives both you and the employer a better idea of each other, as well as what the job role will entail. From an employer’s point of view, meeting in-person allows them to judge interpersonal skills, body language, and personality more naturally than via a Google Meet.
Socialising
Socializing should always be done in person. While Messenger and WhatsApp are good for keeping in touch, they should never be seen as a complete replacement for in-person meetups. Meeting up in real life promotes more spontaneous conversation, memory sharing, and future planning. It’s also great for your mental health.
Shopping
Shopping is 50/50. Online shopping is great for comparing prices, reading reviews, and browsing lots of products in a short amount of time. It also gives you more free time, given that you don’t have to travel to physical locations to browse. However, online shopping removes the magic of shopping in person. You’re more likely to find something unexpected when shopping physically.
Work
Work is another one that is both good in-person and online. Some people need to work in an office to enjoy social connection and to concentrate more. On the other hand, some people feel they can concentrate better when working from home. Plus, remote work gives people the opportunity to work from anywhere — whether it be a local cafe or a completely different country.
