The three areas with the fastest broadband speeds in England are all located in East Yorkshire, new data has revealed.
Molescroft in Beverley (pictured above) tops the list, with 97.9% of residents receiving a broadband speed of at least 30 megabits per second (mbps), with Brough (97.5%) and Sutton South (95.8%) giving East Yorkshire a clean sweep of the top three.
In total, eight East Yorkshire places make up the top 10, with over 94% of residents in Derringham, Bricknell West, Beverley North, Greatfield and Hedon and Preston having broadband of at least 30mbps.
At the other end of the scale, Braintree in Essex was recorded as having the worst broadband speed in the country, with 47.7% of residents in Bures Hamlet, Maplestead and Belchamp having fewer than 10mbps.
Other areas faring badly for broadband speed were Surrey Quays in South East London (42.5%) and Dymock, Hartpury and Huntley in the Forest of Dean (39.9%).
The majority of the worst areas for broadband speed were in the South East or South West.
The data is from Free Price Compare, the UK comparison website that has analysed all areas nationwide to compile the top 10 best and worst areas for broadband speed.
Shailesh Ramani, Director at Free Price Compare, said that even for customers based in the worst areas for broadband speed, there were ways to get more from their current provider and broadband package.
He said: “It can be difficult to know what broadband provider is the best in your area, and which broadband package will ultimately give you what you need – which is why we encourage our customers to use the postcode checker on Free Price Compare, to find out what will work best for them, wherever they are located in the UK.
“Broadband speeds can really vary depending on a number of factors, but where you live has a real impact. So, it is important to look at what can be offered in your area by all the different suppliers. As many of us are still working from home and joining a lot more virtual meetings than we did pre-Covid, broadband speeds are becoming a much bigger priority in our everyday home lives.”
Homeowners can find the most suitable broadband speeds and packages available in their area by using Free Price Compare’s postcode checker.
