KHUJAND, Tajikistan — Kayrakkum Carpets has completed the construction of a new Family and Child Support Center in Khujand and donated the facility to the state, marking the 35th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Tajikistan with a lasting investment in the well-being of children.
The new three-story center, covering more than 2,500 square meters, has been designed to accommodate and support up to 70 children, providing them with modern facilities for residential care, education, healthcare, rehabilitation and recreation.
The project was initiated by Zafar Azimov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kayrakkum Carpets, after years of supporting the center and witnessing firsthand the increasingly difficult conditions of its aging premises.
The institution has served children in Khujand since 1946. For nearly eight decades, its original building provided a home and essential services to generations of children. Over time, however, the structure deteriorated significantly and could no longer provide the environment or facilities required for modern standards of care.
Rather than undertake another partial renovation, Kayrakkum Carpets made the decision to replace the old structure with an entirely new, purpose-built facility.
“Over the years, we visited and supported the center on many occasions, and we saw firsthand the conditions in which the children were living. We came to understand that repairs and individual improvements were no longer enough. What was needed was a completely new home—one that would give these children the safety, comfort and dignity every child deserves.
We wanted to create a place where children could grow, learn and feel cared for, and where they would always know that they are not alone.”
Construction began in February and was completed in approximately seven months, allowing the new center to open during a particularly meaningful year: the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence and the 80th anniversary of the institution itself.
The new complex includes residential and day-care areas, a dedicated wing for infants, rehabilitation rooms, medical facilities and an isolation unit, as well as a gymnasium and events hall. Landscaped outdoor areas include a children’s playground and gazebo. The center also includes dedicated facilities to support single mothers with young children.
Following completion, Kayrakkum Carpets is transferring the entire facility to the state free of charge. The center will continue to operate as a state institution, with its services and ongoing operations funded by the government.
A Commitment Beyond Business

For Kayrakkum Carpets, one of Tajikistan’s leading carpet manufacturers, the project represents a broader commitment to the country and to the communities that have been part of the company’s development.
The decision to dedicate the project to the 35th anniversary of Tajikistan’s independence reflects the belief that an important national anniversary can be marked not only through celebration, but also through initiatives that create lasting value for future generations.
For Zafar Azimov, the significance of the project ultimately lies not in the building itself, but in the lives it is intended to support.
“A building is only the beginning. What matters most is that the children who live here feel safe, valued and surrounded by care. If this new home gives them greater opportunities and a stronger foundation for their future, then we will have achieved what we set out to do.”
With the opening of the new center, an institution that began serving children in Khujand in 1946 enters a new chapter—preserving its long-standing social mission while providing a modern environment for a new generation of children.
The project stands as a contribution from Kayrakkum Carpets to the people of Tajikistan and, above all, to the children who will call the new center home.
