Where to buy a real jade bracelet in the UK, and how you’re protected

A real jade bracelet comes with the fullest legal protection when you buy it from a UK-based seller. The catch is that very few UK shops specialise in natural jadeite, so most serious jade sellers ship from abroad. When they do, your protection comes down to three things: who pays the import charges, whether you can send the bracelet back, and how you pay.

In September 2026 we checked the published policies of six sellers that sell jade bracelets to UK buyers: one UK retailer and five overseas specialists. We set them against the official guidance on consumer rights, customs charges and card protection. The table below shows what each seller offers, and the sections after it explain the rules behind each column.

Where can you buy a real jade bracelet in the UK?

You can buy a real jade bracelet from a UK retailer or from an overseas jade specialist that ships to the UK, and the protection you get differs sharply between the two. Policies below were checked on 28 September 2026. Prices are shown in each seller’s own currency, as listed that day.

SellerBased inImport charges on deliveryChange-of-mind returnsAuthenticity paperworkBracelet prices seen
TJCUKNone (ships from the UK)30 days; original postage and return postage not refundedAuthenticity card where supplied£9.99 to £69.99

Where a seller doesn’t say who pays import charges, assume you will on any order worth more than £135. The customs section below explains why.

What does UK consumer law cover when you buy a jade bracelet online?

UK consumer law gives you 14 days to cancel an online jade bracelet order for any reason, and 30 days to reject one that is faulty or not as described. Both rights are easiest to use against a seller based in the UK.

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, you have 14 days from delivery to tell the seller you are cancelling, then a further 14 days to send the item back. The seller must refund you within 14 days of receiving it, according to GOV.UK’s guidance for traders. Personalised and made-to-measure items are excluded, which is why several sellers in our table refuse returns on resized pieces.

If the bracelet is faulty or doesn’t match its description, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you a 30-day short-term right to reject it for a full refund, as the House of Commons Library explains. That covers a bracelet sold as natural jadeite that turns out to be dyed or resin-filled.

Buying from an overseas seller is where this gets harder. A trader outside the UK may not work to UK rules, and chasing one through a UK court is rarely practical. So when you buy from abroad, the seller’s own written returns policy and your payment method matter more than the statute book.

If a dispute with an overseas seller stalls, the UK International Consumer Centre (UKICC) can help. It is run by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute with government funding, gives free advice, and can sometimes contact the trader on your behalf. It expects you to have tried the trader and your bank first, and it cannot force a trader to pay.

Will you pay customs on a jade bracelet from abroad?

You pay import VAT on any jade bracelet sent from outside the UK. On orders worth more than £135 you may also owe customs duty, collected before the parcel is handed over, unless the seller has prepaid it.

GOV.UK sets out how this works. For goods worth £135 or less, the seller should already have added VAT at checkout. Above £135, Royal Mail, Parcelforce or the courier bills you for VAT, plus customs duty where it applies, and VAT is charged on the value of the goods plus postage, packaging, insurance and any duty.

Duty rates depend on the type of goods and where they come from, and GOV.UK points you to its Trade Tariff service to check them. The carrier normally holds the parcel for about three weeks while it waits for payment, then returns it to the sender.

Some sellers prepay these charges, an arrangement known as delivered duty paid (DDP), meaning the price you pay at checkout is the whole cost. In our comparison, only BMjade says it prepays import duties and taxes on every order. Mason-Kay and The Jade’s Call state that the charges are yours to pay on delivery, while Gransky Jewellery and RealJade Co. don’t say.

Before ordering a bracelet worth more than £135 from a seller that doesn’t prepay, add 20% VAT at the standard rate to the price, plus any duty and the carrier’s fee.

Which payment method best protects a jade bracelet purchase?

A credit card gives the strongest protection on a jade bracelet costing more than £100. Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act makes the card provider jointly responsible with the seller if the goods aren’t as described or never arrive.

According to MoneyHelper, Section 75 covers items costing more than £100 and up to £30,000, even if only part of the price went on the card. The £100 threshold applies per item, so a £90 bracelet falls outside it even when you pay by credit card. Section 75 doesn’t apply to debit cards.

Paying through Apple Pay or Google Pay keeps Section 75 cover as long as the wallet charges a credit card, Which? explains. You lose it if you pay from a wallet balance or through an intermediary.

On a debit card, or on an item under £100, you can ask your bank for a chargeback, which means reversing the payment under the card scheme’s rules. Chargeback isn’t a legal right, but it covers card payments of any value.

Other routes are weaker. Experian notes that paying through a marketplace, with buy now pay later, or with some PayPal payments can stop Section 75 applying. A bank transfer to a seller you don’t know carries neither Section 75 nor chargeback protection.

Every seller in our table accepts major credit cards. All five overseas sellers also take Apple Pay and Google Pay, and three of them (Gransky Jewellery, RealJade Co. and The Jade’s Call) take PayPal as well.

How can you check a jade bracelet is real before you pay?

The most reliable way to check a jade bracelet is a report from an independent gemmological laboratory. It should name the mineral, state whether the stone has been treated, and carry a number you can look up on the lab’s own website.

“Jade” covers two different minerals, jadeite and nephrite, so a good listing says which one you’re buying. Type A jadeite is natural jadeite that hasn’t been bleached, filled with resin or dyed; treated jadeite is often sold as Type B (bleached and resin-filled) or Type C (dyed). Nephrite isn’t graded this way, so look for “natural, untreated nephrite” instead.

Paperwork varies a lot between sellers. A certificate of authenticity from the seller is the seller vouching for its own stock, while an independent lab report is a third party’s finding. Both have value, but only the second can be checked without taking the seller’s word for it. Labs such as GIA and China’s National Gemstone Testing Center (NGTC) let you look up a report number online.

If a listing says only “jade”, doesn’t name a mineral, or describes the colour as “enhanced”, ask the seller about treatment before you buy. Home tests, such as holding the stone to feel whether it stays cool, can raise suspicion, but they can’t detect bleaching, resin or dye.

What does each jade bracelet seller offer UK buyers?

Each jade bracelet seller below trades off price, paperwork and protection differently, so the right choice depends on what you’re buying and how much risk you’ll carry. Sellers are listed with the UK retailer first, then the overseas specialists in alphabetical order.

TJC (UK)

TJC is a UK television and online retailer that ships from the UK, so full UK consumer law applies. Standard delivery costs £2.99 to £4.99 and takes three to five working days, with free delivery on orders over £65. Its 15 jade bracelets ranged from £9.99 to £69.99 when we checked, and interest-free Budget Pay instalments were offered.

TJC accepts returns for 30 days, though its pages differ on whether that counts from dispatch or from delivery, so send anything back early. Refunds exclude the original postage and your return costs. Some listings say “natural Type A jadeite” while others just say “green jade”, and the one we opened didn’t say whether the stone had been treated, so check each listing before you buy.

BMjade (Kunming, China)

BMjade is a jade workshop in Kunming, Yunnan, whose founder has bought jadeite rough at Hpakant in Myanmar since 2016; its nephrite comes from Xinjiang. Its jadeite is sold as Type A, and every piece ships with an independent NGTC lab report you can verify online. It is the only seller in our comparison that prepays UK import duties and taxes, so nothing is due on delivery.

Delivery to the UK takes 7 to 15 days, and tracked standard shipping is free on orders over $40. BMjade accepts returns for any reason within 30 days, but the bracelet goes back to China at your cost. A lifetime authenticity guarantee refunds the price, the lab’s testing fee and approved return postage if an independent lab ever finds a piece isn’t as described.

Most of the jade bracelets on BMjade we saw were priced between $246 and $360. It takes Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay and major credit cards, but not PayPal.

Gransky Jewellery (Hong Kong)

Gransky Jewellery is a Hong Kong jeweller selling natural Burmese Type A jadeite, with a certificate included on many of its bangles. Shipping is free worldwide: orders take three to five business days to process and seven to ten business days to reach Europe. Its policies don’t say who pays UK import charges.

You can return an item within 30 days of delivery, but only with prior approval and at your own shipping cost. A 15% restocking fee applies to returns worth $500 or more, and damage has to be reported within three days of delivery. Its bangles ranged from $55 to $11,800, with many green Type A bangles between $500 and $880, and it takes PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and major cards.

Mason-Kay (Colorado, USA)

Mason-Kay is a family business in Centennial, Colorado, that has sold natural jade since 1976. It guarantees its jadeite is untreated, tests pieces for dye and polymer, and includes its own Certificate of Authenticity with every order. Some of its black jade is nephrite, which it labels.

For UK buyers its terms are the strictest in this group. International orders are handled case by case, import charges are collected from you on delivery, and international orders can’t be returned. Its 56 bracelets, a mix of jadeite and nephrite, ranged from $120 to $4,840, and it takes major cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

RealJade Co. (USA)

RealJade Co. is a US jeweller that sells only natural Type A Burmese jadeite and guarantees authenticity for life, with a GIA report on pieces over $10,000. International orders go by DHL in three to five days, with the shipping cost shown at checkout. Its policies don’t say who pays UK import charges.

You have 30 days from receipt to request a return, and RealJade sends a return label once it approves one; sale, custom and resized items can’t be returned. On the first page of its bead bracelet collection, sale prices ran from $649 to $4,940, and the most expensive bracelet was $11,250. It takes PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and major cards.

The Jade’s Call (Singapore)

The Jade’s Call is a Singapore seller of Type A jadeite bangles from Myanmar and Guatemala, each sent with a certificate. Orders go by UPS or FedEx in three to five business days at a flat shipping rate, and UK import charges are yours to pay on delivery. Its featured bangles were priced at SGD 168 to 268.

The Jade’s Call doesn’t accept change-of-mind returns. If a recognised lab such as GIA finds a bangle isn’t Type A within three months, it refunds the price and the shipping both ways. Wrong or damaged items must be reported within 48 hours, a one-off size exchange is possible within 48 hours at your cost, and it takes PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and major cards.

Before you pay: a five-point jade bracelet checklist

These five checks cover most of what goes wrong when UK buyers order a jade bracelet online:

  1. Find out who pays import charges on orders over £135. If the seller doesn’t prepay them, budget for VAT, any duty and the carrier’s fee.
  2. Read the returns policy for the change-of-mind window, who pays postage back and any restocking fee.
  3. Look for a named lab report with a number you can verify, not just the words “genuine jade”.
  4. Pay by credit card, directly or through Apple Pay or Google Pay, for any single item over £100.
  5. Keep the listing, your emails and the tracking details. You’ll need them for a chargeback, a Section 75 claim or help from the UKICC.

Sellers change their terms, so check each one’s current policies on the day you order.
