Shower enclosures are an essential part of modern bathrooms. Not only do these keep water contained within the shower space but they also serve as a centerpiece. Choosing the shower enclosure that is the perfect fit for your bathroom can be challenging.
If you want a shower enclosure that is stylish, durable, and functional without overspending, you need to strike the right balance between quality and budget. In this blog, we discuss different steps that you should follow to choose the best shower enclosure without breaking the bank.
Step 1: Assess The Space Available in the Bathroom
Before we dig deeper into the various types of shower enclosures, you will need to measure the available space in the bathroom. This assessment will help you decide about the type and size of the enclosure that would best fit into the available space. You will also need to take a closer look at the bathroom layout.
In case you have a small bathroom, a quadrant shower enclosurewith a corner fitting will be suitable. It is considered the best utilisation of available space. On the other hand, large bathrooms allow for any type of enclosure. Accurate measurements not only ensure a good fit but also help you avoid unnecessary spending on enclosures that won’t work for your bathroom. To get the measurement done, you will need some tools such as a measuring tape, paper, and a pencil. Start by taking the measurement of the width of the space where your shower enclosure will be installed. After width you will need to measure height. Since most shower enclosures, including the one Royal Bathrooms UK ranges had, have a standard height of 1850mm. Measure it from the floor to the ceiling at multiple points to ensure accuracy. Additionally, you should also note down the depth, which is the distance from the outermost edge of the base to the innermost edge of the opposite wall. On top of these measurements, you should also check for obstruction and take a note of it while considering the clearance space required for the shower door swing. Once you have all of these measurements on paper, repeat all the steps again to avoid any costly mistakes in the shower enclosure size.
Step 2: Define Your Style and Preferences
Shower enclosures come in various styles and types. You will need to choose the enclosure based on your aesthetic requirements. Common styles in terms of aesthetics include frameless and framed shower enclosures.
While frameless designs are more expensive, framed enclosures can still provide long-lasting durability at a lower cost, making them a smart option if you are on a budget. There are semi frameless designs that are almost identical to frameless enclosures.
Step 3: Understand Different Types of Enclosures
Shower enclosures come in various types, each catering to different needs and preferences.
When trying to save money, focus on functionality first. A simple sliding or bi-fold door enclosure can often provide the same convenience as a luxury walk-in model—at a fraction of the price.
| Shower Enclosure Type | Shape | Space Efficiency | Doors | Suitable for |
| Quadrant | Quarter-circle | Maximizes corner space | Sliding or hinged | Smaller bathrooms |
| Offset | Asymmetrical quarter-circle | Utilizes one side more | Sliding or hinged | Bathrooms with uneven space |
| Square | Square | Versatile | Sliding or pivot | Various bathroom sizes and styles |
| Rectangular | Rectangular | Longer and narrower | Sliding or pivot | Larger bathrooms with more linear space |
| Walk-in Shower | Open design | Spacious and accessible | Frameless or glass panels | All bathroom sizes, especially larger ones |
Step 4: Consider Maintenance and Cleaning
Your shower enclosure will require regular cleaning and maintenance. Therefore, how much effort and time it requires is an important factor to consider.
Low-maintenance designs such asquadrant shower enclosures with easy-clean glass may cost slightly more upfront, but they save you money on cleaning products and effort in the long run.
Step 5: Set a Realistic Budget
Since costs can be a big concern for many homeowners, it is important to explore various ranges from a price perspective. You should set aside a realistic budget. Framed shower enclosures are generally more budget-friendly than frameless ones.
You should keep in mind that quality is paramount, and investing in a durable, well-constructed enclosure can save you money in the long run by reducing the need for frequent replacements or repairs.
Compare prices across retailers, look for seasonal discounts, and don’t overlook mid-range brands. Many offer excellent value without compromising on quality.
