He’s the mastermind behind growth at Credit Card Compare, but Gareth Boyd isn’t just another executive tied to a desk. With a career that takes him across the UK, Singapore, and Australia, the Head of Growth at Credit Card Compare has turned remote working into an art form.
“I thrive on structure and spontaneity,” he says – and looking at his lifestyle, it’s clear he’s got the balance just right.
Credit Card Compare, Australia’s leading credit card comparison platform, has its headquarters in Sydney, but Boyd’s world stretches far beyond one location. He operates from multiple continents, keeping the business growing while managing family life back in Northern Ireland.
For many, remote working became a necessity during the pandemic, but for Boyd, it was always the plan. His work-from-anywhere approach allows him to balance professional demands with personal priorities, though coordinating with a team spread across different time zones is no easy feat.
Credit Card Compare was founded by Boyd’s brothers, Andrew and David, over a decade ago. The trio may be siblings, but their strengths are strikingly different – a dynamic that has played to their advantage.
“We divide and conquer,” Boyd explains. “Andrew’s strengths lie in day-to-day operations, while I focus on growth and partnerships. David has always been about dreaming ideas up, moonshots we like to call them. We don’t compete — instead, we collaborate.”
Despite its success, the company remains laser-focused on keeping things lean, innovative, and customer-centric. “Credit Card Compare’s mission has always been to simplify finance for Australians,” Boyd says. “It’s a universal need — everyone wants better financial choices.”
A typical day in Boyd’s world is anything but ordinary. Mornings in the UK are spent with his wife and two children before the workday kicks in. By mid-morning, he’s on video calls with the Sydney team, mapping out marketing strategies and analysing growth data.
Afternoons might be spent consulting on a partnership with a fintech company in Singapore or testing website improvements to enhance the user experience. And despite the relentless schedule, Boyd has his non-negotiables.
“Family dinner, daily exercise, copious amounts of coffee, supplements, and consistent sleep are must-haves,” he admits. “Everything else fits around that.”
His secret to staying productive? “Batching. I cluster similar tasks into blocks. It’s easier to focus when you don’t have to jump between unrelated things.”
For Boyd, work and family life naturally overlap – but he sees that as a strength, not a challenge. “My wife kind of knows what I do, and I like to think she sees hard work in action which will have a knock-on effect on our kids in the future,” he says. “But I also try my best to make sure to unplug when needed.”
Even when he’s off-duty, his entrepreneurial spirit is hard to switch off. Whether it’s testing out new tools or refining strategies, Boyd believes that personal and professional growth go hand in hand. “Growth isn’t just a job; it’s a mindset,” he explains.
Boyd is convinced that remote work is the future, especially for businesses with global ambitions. “It’s about trust and results,” he says. “We’ve proven that you don’t need everyone in the same room to drive impact. Flexibility breeds innovation.”
His top advice for aspiring remote leaders? “Focus on communication and clarity. Over-communicate if needed. A shared vision makes everything possible, even across oceans.”
With a career that spans continents, a thriving business, and a family to balance, Boyd proves that you don’t need to choose between professional success and personal fulfilment – you just need to make it work on your own terms.
