Ushio Europe B.V. presented at Light + Building fair (2 – 6.10.2022 – Frankfurt am Main), Care222® series, a new line of ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) lamps, designed for highly effective microbial reduction, to kill bacteria and inactivate a vast range of viruses, without damaging human cells/tissues. Ushio’s Care222® component appears alongside the complete solutions offered by UV Medico, which integrates Ushio’s technology into its UV222™ series of disinfection modules.
Care222® light is absorbed by the top layer of skin and the cornea of the eye, so it does not cause any mutations in exposed individuals; therefore, can be used in environments where people are present, like restaurants, offices, hall, transportation facilities, hospitals, nursing homes.
Conventional 254 nm UV disinfection lamps, while highly effective, penetrate deeper tissue layers and cause mutations that lead to serious illnesses, such as skin cancer and cataracts. This makes 254 nm UV unsuitable for occupied spaces, which is why Ushio developed Care222® technology specifically for that purpose.
Devices with Ushio’s Care222® filtered excimer lamps emit far UV-C in the 200 – 230 nm band, with a dominant peak at 222 nm. With the welfare of occupants assured, the gentle Care222® irradiation quietly inactivates air – and surface-borne pathogens to protect from the threat of disease.
