Each year for us gamers, brings along a lot of excitement with new games and console releases. And although it looks like we’re going to be waiting a bit longer for the next Grand Theft Auto, that’s not to say that there’s plenty to look forward to for the rest of the year. There are many big titles yet to be released, as well as many exciting updates and developments to existing games that are absolutely certain to be a big hit. Today we’re going to look at three of the top things that we, as gamers, should be looking forward to this year. Some of these in the following list[1] are confirmed, and some we’re hoping might be announced, but it’s no doubt going to be an exciting year for the gaming community.
Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo is certainly making us wait with baited breath to see when the successor to the original Nintendo Switch is going to be released. There was a lot of talk in the industry about it being this year. In fact, they haven’t even gone as far as to confirm that it will even be named the Nintendo Switch 2.
However, there were reports that a lucky few were given a behind-door demonstration of it at Gamescom last August. However, since then, we have heard no more. It’s also believed that a lot of big names from some of Nintendo’s biggest franchises will be announced along with the console. And so when Gamescom 2024 was announced this year, it was even more frustrating when it was announced that Nintendo was missing the conference altogether. And so the gaming community is still left in the dark as to when we will see the next Switch release;, hopefully it won’t be too long.
Developments in AR and VR
Over the past few years, advancements in technology and a shift of focus from developers have meant that there have been huge steps when it comes to the integration of augmented and virtual reality within gaming. They have by far offered players who have experienced either or both of them absolutely unparalleled immersion into the games on offer. There were big steps forward in 2023, but these were mainly focused on recreational games. We are anticipating that we will start to see more educational VR games come onto the scene. And further developments in VR and AR headset technology will ensure that we gamers will be able to immerse ourselves deeper than ever before.
Netflix games will continue to grow.
Originally famed for its movies and series on its streaming platform, Netflix has slowly been growing a catalogue of mobile games under its name, including some very big titles. At the moment, its catalogue has been technologically limited to mobile games; however, they have been testing allowing its users to stream games on other devices. If this goes well and the media giant gets the capability to allow people to stream games on devices other than smartphones, we could potentially start to see a big new player on the scene. It could also be the first company to hit big when it comes to the concept of streaming games, which is still infant in nature.
In Summary
For the rest of this year, there are plenty of things for us to look forward to as gamers – even casinos sites like casinosnotongamstop.ltd are getting in on the act.
As you’ve read today, hopefully some announcements that we get to hear regarding the launch of the next Nintendo Switch. It will also be interesting to see what trends develop and what we could potentially be looking forward to in 2025 (hopefully GTA 6!).
