When you lose your car keys, there is no doubt that it can be a highly frustrating experience that leaves you in a situation in which you do not really know what to do next. Whether the keys have been lost or locked inside the car, there are always going to be steps that you can take to fix the problem. With this in mind, here are a few solutions that you can try to get back into your car.
Check for Your Spare KeyÂ
While it may seem like an obvious enough suggestion to begin with, it is certainly going to be worth checking whether or not you have a spare key readily available to you. You should do this before you attempt anything overly complicated to get into the vehicle in the first place. Perhaps you have this in a safe space around your home or it could have been left with someone else for exactly this type of situation! Don’t forget that if your electronic keys stop working, change the battery or use them manually – it’s easy to forget that they function just like normal keys too!
Check for an AppÂ
If you have a newer model vehicle, it may well be the case that you are able to unlock the vehicle from an app rather than being stuck outside. So, if you have not downloaded it yet, now may well prove to be the perfect opportunity to do so! Of course, this is not always going to be possible in older vehicles, but if you have a modern car, this could be a potential solution that has been right under your nose the whole time.
Call Out Your Breakdown ServiceÂ
A lot of drivers are going to be subscribed to a breakdown service which can come along to deal with this particular problem with the special set of tools that they have readily available to them. So, it is certainly going to be worth calling them out if you cannot find another solution.
Call a LocksmithÂ
The other major service provider that you have the potential to call is an auto locksmith. There is no doubt that they can help to solve the problem, as well as being able to create some replacement keys if you are not able to find the original ones.
Use String or a Fishing LineÂ
If you have an older vehicle that has manual locks and want to try opening it yourself, it could be that using either a string or a fishing line is going to help to solve the problem in a successful manner. You are going to need to tie it up in a loop and work it into the gap in the opening of the door. The loop will then need to be hooked onto the opening mechanism of the lock to allow it to spring open all over again. Using an opened wire hanger could work as well, but you have the potential to scratch or damage your car this way.
All of these are amongst the possible solutions that you can put into practice if you are simply not able to fix the issue. Each and every one of them can prove to be a potential way of putting it right.
