Are you moving house soon? Any house move requires a high level of organization if it is to be completed in a way that is cost efficient, comfortable and convenient.
Calling in the professionals will always be top line advice. Paying someone else to not just transport all your worldly goods from one location to another, but also come in, pack every, single item as it stands, and then unpack it at the other end, is a luxury. And one that many people cannot afford.
To help you, we have created a home moving essentials kit – a run down of all those pieces of equipment that will come in useful, give you a bit of blessed relief, deal with forgotten every day necessities, and fundamentally help to keep stress levels at a manageable level.
The kitchen – keeping you fed and hydrated
There are certain items in your kitchen that you use every single day without even realizing it. Walk through your day and make a mental note of all those items that you use as part of your daily routine – chances are they include a kettle, knives and forks, your favorite plates.
At various points during your working day you are going to need refueling, and you may also need to refuel your removal men with copious teas and coffees. Make sure that you are well stocked for the day, and that your kitchen package also includes a corkscrew for that end of day celebratory tipple.
An essentials tool kit
You are going to need a plethora of different tools as you both break down your existing furniture, and rebuild it at the other end. Your tool kit needs to include (at a bare minimum):
– A hammer, electric drill (with spare drill bits), pliers, wrench, screwdrivers (both Phillips and flathead), an electric screwdriver, several utility knives, Allen keys (you know, all those Allen keys that you didn’t throw away when you bought new flat pack furniture).
If you have a big house and there are more than one of you, then double up on your essentials tool kit so that you’re not both vying for the same piece of equipment at the same time. You’ll get through the jobs so much more quickly, and there’s less chance of you losing precious equipment and blaming the other.
Bringing in comfort for your first night
There’s nothing more exciting than spending that first night in your new home. Unless you have packed all your bedding in a van that’s arriving the following morning. In which case, you are probably going to be a bit uncomfortable and chilly.
Making an adventure of the first night is memorable, particularly with little children who may be a little upset by the changes. Packing up sleeping bags and ‘camping out’ in one of the rooms altogether will absolutely set the tone for this new adventure.
And what does every camping trip need? Toilet roll.
Cleaning after the cleaners
Unfortunately, not all homeowners will leave their property in a state of cleanliness that matches your own high standards. Make sure that you have access to a few cleaning essentials to tackle any areas that make you feel uncomfortable on moving in. This will include any all purpose cleaning equipment such as detergent, floor cleaners, mops and buckets, vacuum cleaners, trash bags. It will take time to bring the whole house up to your own exacting standards, but for now these items will tackle any more urgent cases.
Phone charger
Finally, do not forget your phone charger! These days a person’s entire life is run through a phone. Having access to telephone numbers is just one area. On top of this Is all correspondence relating to the sale and purchase of the properties, banking, important documents, utilities and the internet.
