George Clooney. Victoria Beckham. Hilary Duff.
All the top celebs seem to have a perfect smile.
But how?
This blog explains how celebrities achieve their Hollywood smile with insights from the dentists in Birmingham, and the providers of the best dental implants in London.
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are when a metal post is put into the gums to add strength and support to the gum. An artificial tooth (usually in the form of a denture, crown, or bridge) is then used to fill in the gap.
The treatment takes a while to complete (when you take healing into the equation) and isn’t exactly cheap. However, it helps with chewing, appearance, and speech, and preserves the facial structure.
Celebrities with dental implants
Hilary Duff
The Disney Channel patron (AKA Lizzie McGuire) has had her ups and downs with her smile.
She initially chipped one of her front teeth after an altercation with a microphone – it really pays to be a pop star. This was quickly sorted with the help of composite bonding – when a tooth-coloured resin is used to cover the chipped area and create the appearance of a full and healthy tooth.
But it doesn’t stop there.
Two hours before her wedding, her tooth fell out when she bit into a bagel!
Duff chose to have an implant to fill in the gap and preserve her gum health.
Mike Tyson
Wonder how Mike ended up with missing teeth?
Boxer Mike Tyson is no stranger to a gap in his smile. Dental implants are the perfect option to maintain both the jaw and smile.
While he had some work done (once in the form of a pair of gold crowns), he later went and got one of his veneers removed to reveal a gap – guess everyone needs a signature look in the spotlight.
Demi Moore
Charlie’s Angel, Demi Moore, is a one-of-a-kind beauty.
But it’s not without a bit of help.
To get her teeth red carpet ready, it looks like Moore’s had dental veneers. This is a popular treatment in the celeb world and beyond, which covers the front surface of the teeth for a symmetrical smile in a shade of the patient’s choosing.
Demi is a self-confessed tooth clencher, which puts stress on the whole tooth. Causing a weak point in the root, she ended up knocking out one of her front teeth, leaving a gap in her whiter-than-white smile.
While she said on a chat show “thank god for modern dentistry” we can assume she’s had dental implants to preserve her oral health.
Ed Helms
Most famously known for his roles in The Office (US), The Hangover series, and We’re The Millers, you can’t deny Ed Helms’ picture-perfect smile.
Interestingly, Ed was front tooth never developed, leading him to get dental implants from a young age to maintain his smile and quality of life.
Did you know: In The Hangover, Ed’s character wakes up with a missing tooth after a wild night out in Las Vegas. To remove the need for CGI or makeup wizardry, he got his dental crown taken off, and then reinstalled once filming came to an end.
Suppose it comes in handy to have a missing tooth…
