YouTube, for example, shares up to 55% of its revenue with streamers, and when you factor in that the platform made around £30 billion in revenue in 2023, you can appreciate why streaming can be a smart career choice. The key, however, is that you do not need to become the next Mr Beast to become successful. Simply having a dedicated following measured in the 100s or low 1000s can be enough to earn significant revenue. 

While it can be difficult to stand out among the millions of streamers worldwide, there are still numerous underrepresented niches waiting to be explored. These niches offer unique opportunities for new streamers to carve out their own space, attract dedicated audiences, and provide valuable content that fills gaps in the current market. Below, we highlight several innovative and underexplored streaming topics that can set you apart and potentially build a loyal following:

This is one of the most interesting areas, particularly as the demand for simple, easy-to-understand content does not meet the supply. Many older people are, of course, au fait with technology, but many struggle to operate in this tech-heavy world we now live in. Using your expertise to provide simple, easy-to-follow advice could be a real winner, helping you carve out a niche. 

2. Casino Streaming 

It goes well under the radar just how popular streaming casino games on YouTube and Twitch has become. The sector has many dedicated followers, and we have seen YouTube videos rack up millions of views. Of course, you will have to be careful in how you portray online casino play, and we would advise you to put the entertainment aspect first. It’s also worth noting that there is a demand for low-stakes casino streaming. Whatever you do, play responsibly and be aware that YouTube and Twitch have strict rules for the promotion of gambling. 

3. Urban Gardening 

Gardening videos are everywhere online, but what if you don’t have a garden? Those of us who live in apartments and cities can still use advice on growing in urban spaces. It might be advice on how to grow vegetables on a balcony or more social advice on how to plan, apply for, and develop shared green spaces in urban environments.

You’ll find a plethora of financial advice videos on streaming platforms, which tell you everything from solid investment advice for retirement to the moonshot strategies of buying cryptocurrency (beware of these), yet there is an underrepresentation of advice videos on specific topics. For example, how to stretch your maternity leave budget or how to invest with less than £50 a month. 

5. High Fantasy Mythology 

This is an area that is definitely growing of late, yet it is still badly underserved in streaming. Fans are hungry for streamers who have knowledge of the worlds of Tolkien’s Middle-Earth, Martin’s Westeros, and other fantasy worlds. If possible, try to look outside these authors to ones that have not yet been covered in detail. Raymond E. Feist and Robert Jordan are two authors that spring to mind that would have a ready-made audience. 

6. Specialised Fitness and Wellness

Again, you can find plenty of workout streamers online, but most of them are targeting young people who want the perfect body. A niche can be found in tailoring fitness videos toward older people, or even people with disabilities. There are many directions that you could go in, keeping in mind that there are people who see standard exercise routines as out of reach.
