As the Genesis Scottish Open returns to East Lothian for the sixth year in a row, speed limits and parking restrictions have been implemented.
This year’s tournament will be held at The Renaissance Club from July 12-16, and it will feature some of the sport’s biggest names competing for a $9 million purse.
Defending champion Xander Schauffele will be joined by the likes of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, No. 2 Rory McIlroy, No. 3 Viktor Hovland, No. 4 Rickie Fowler, No. 5 Grant Forrest of East Lothian, and No. 6 Jason Day.
East Lothian Council plans to accommodate the anticipated tens of thousands of spectators at the tournament.
There will be parking restrictions in Aberlady, Longniddry, and Dirleton, and the speed limit on a stretch of the A198 will be reduced to 30 mph while the tournament is in progress.
Environmentalist and economic development and tourist advocate Councillor John McMillan was looking forward to the meeting.
He gushed, “It’s great to see Scotland’s Golf Coast playing host to such a prestigious tournament once again.”It’s a huge boon for East Lothian’s reputation as a golfing and tourism destination worldwide and the local economy as a whole. Having the best golfers in the world here, along with tens of thousands of spectators, is a huge boon for our hospitality and tourism sector.
On all public tournament days (Wednesday through Sunday), a shuttle bus will run between Longniddry Railway Station and the venue at no cost to attendees.
In addition, there will be a bus stop for the X5 and the 124 on the A198, close to where people can enter the public parking lot.
Muirfield Fields, located off the A198 between Gullane and Dirleton, has free public parking only a short distance from the site.
From the A1, tourists can follow road markers directly to The Renaissance Club.
We are looking forward to greeting golf fans from all around the world and working with local partners to make this a safe and successful event,” said Superintendent Alan Carson of Police Scotland. Please plan if you intend to travel to the Scottish Open, knowing that certain roads may be closed or have other restrictions. This weekend, there will be extra police around, and we’re here to assist you.
