With gaming being one of the most popular pastimes around the world, and with the global proliferation of smartphones continuing to grow, it should not come as a surprise that mobile gaming is at an all-time high.
In 2022, mobile platforms were found to dominate 60% of the gaming market, surpassing traditional console gaming and other forms. Research suggests that the mobile gaming industry is growing faster than the overall gaming industry. Around 86% of the world’s population, or approximately 6.92 billion people, are presumed to own a smartphone, up from 49.9% (3.6 billion) in 2016.
Why has mobile gaming risen to an all-time high?
With these figures in mind, it can become relatively easy to understand why the mobile gaming market has risen to an all-time high, and why we are experiencing numbers that are showing it outperforming traditional forms that many generations had previously grown up with as their first choice.
Convenience
Convenience must be considered a highly influential factor in this growing trend. Players can use their smartphones whenever they want and can easily access their favorite titles whenever they have a moment for some downtime and fun. It is a lot easier and quicker to use these devices than setting up a traditional console or PC, and the same experiences can typically be enjoyed.

Mobile gaming has opened a new world of gaming for players, as there are more choices now available that have not always been possible to enjoy on gadgets that were previously used.
